Indirectly, implies the nature, because destroying the environment means destroying their shelters, the place where they find food and live and condemn them to extinction. That is why in addition to the animal exploitation aspect, the vegan rating takes into account harm or good done on the environment. For more information, see <a href=\"https:\/\/veganfinance.org\/fr\/scoring-explanations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Scoring methodology section<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tolerance<\/strong> is applied when a company sells a general <strong>non-harmful-for-animals product or service<\/strong> (ex: mail application or accountancy software, HR or IT services,&#8230;) <strong>to non-vegan companies<\/strong>. In this case, although some of its clients are non vegan,\u00a0 the assessed company can be evaluated vegan-compliant. <strong>The VF methodology does not require exclusion of non-vegan customers. But it penalizes any promotion of non-vegan activities<\/strong>, which means that advertising companies that promote any form of animal exploitation provided by their customers will be rated vegan non-compliant.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Absolute values<\/strong> et <strong>Relative values<\/strong> are used with <strong>thresholds<\/strong> comme <strong>landmarks<\/strong> (eg. maximum amount of revenue and percentage of sales from animal exploitation) to better distinguish the borders between vegan-non compliant and neutral\/ in transition state. For more information, see <a href=\"https:\/\/veganfinance.org\/fr\/scoring-explanations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Scoring methodology section<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Missing data: <\/strong>we apply the test of <strong><i>reasonable <\/i><i>likelihood<\/i> <\/strong>recommended by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sec.gov\/rules\/interp\/33-8350.htm\">US <\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sec.gov\/rules\/interp\/33-8350.htm\">SEC<\/a> et <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sasb.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/SASB-Conceptual-Framework-Final-Formatted-10-22-13.pdf\">SASB<\/a> to determine if a factor must be considered as material or not. In case of doubt and unclarified situations, we follow this principle : &#8220;<strong>be on the side of the animals and the planet, not the company&#8221;.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>The VF rating methodology is based on the definition of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vegansociety.com\/about-us\/further-information\/key-facts#:~:text=The%20Vegan%20Society's%20formal%20definition,use%20of%20animal%2Dfree%20alternatives\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">veganism<\/a> which excludes all forms of animal exploitation:\u00a0<\/strong> &#8220;<em>Veganism is a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude\u2014as far as is possible and practicable\u2014<strong>all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals<\/strong> for food, clothing or any other purpose; and by extension, <strong>promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives<\/strong> for the benefit of animals, humans and the environment&#8221; (The Vegan Society<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p>From this definition, we follow these stages in our analysis to score and rate companies:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Premi\u00e8rement, comprenez profond\u00e9ment les activit\u00e9s et les secteurs d'activit\u00e9 de l'entreprise et \u00e9vitez les id\u00e9es pr\u00e9con\u00e7ues.<\/li>\n<li>Consider if there is any <strong>direct exploitation<\/strong> of animals in each business line and subsidiary of the company<\/li>\n<li>If no direct exploitation, consider if there is <strong>any form of indirect harmful action against animals<\/strong> for which the company is partially, mainly or fully responsible. It can be indirectly in the supply chain, or by any sponsorship harmful to animals as sponsoring hunting clubs or circus.<\/li>\n<li>If no direct exploitation, consider the company\u2019s <strong>environmental performance<\/strong>. Typically, we consider the following metrics: Greenhouse gas emission, water consumption, hazardous and non-hazardous waste rejected and recycled<\/li>\n<li>Consider if there is any <strong>controversy<\/strong> on animals and environment. Here third-party sources are particularly useful.<\/li>\n<li>The final rating takes into account the harmful and beneficial dimensions. <strong>The beneficial dimension is nonetheless capped by any kind of animal exploitation.<\/strong> The final rating is finally based on the <a href=\"https:\/\/veganfinance.org\/fr\/scoring-explanations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">scoring methodology<\/a> , which aim is to clearly differentiate each stage of evolution through test-conditions, and to make every company progress towards a totally animal-friendly \/ vegan business.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>En d\u00e9pit de nos efforts pour donner la note la plus juste et la plus \u00e9quitable possible, des omissions, des erreurs ou des am\u00e9liorations sont toujours possibles.
